Sources of Ignition (Sat. PM)
$0
The object of a cause and origin investigation is to identify the first fuel ignited and the heat source that led to the ignition. The challenge is to identify that first fuel and then determine how the ignition source transferred sufficient heat to kindle a flame. This 4-hour class is designed to assist students in determining competent sources of ignition for given fuels and situations. Among the topics discussed will be: “Hot surface” ignition, spontaneous combustion vs. self-heating combustion, electrical fires, the role of static electricity, cigarettes, wind-blown sparks and fire brands and long term ignition due to pyrolysis. The class will also address normally competent ignition sources that are not viable in certain situations and conditions.
