When the Mayday is called a RIT Team is activated. The team is comprised of a group of specially trained firefighters with the purpose of quickly rescuing other firefighters in need of help. This 12-hr class will teach students the following:

Course Description: S-130 is designed to provide entry-level firefighters skills. Field time is encouraged, and many of the units are set up so they can be taught in either the classroom or the field. The field exercise for Unit 12 is required.
S-190 provides instruction in the primary factors affecting the start and spread of wildfire and recognition of potentially hazardous situations. S-190 is typically taught in conjunction with or prior to Basic Firefighter Training, S-130. It is designed to meet the fire behavior training needs of a Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) on an incident as outlined in the NIMS: Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide, PMS 310-1, and the position task book developed for the position.

Course Description: S-131, Firefighter Type 1, is a twelve-hour course designed to meet the training needs of the Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1) and/or Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5). This course is designed to be interactive in nature. It contains class discussion and several tactical decision games designed to facilitate learning the objectives. Topics include operational leadership, communications, LCES, and tactical decision-making.

Course Description: This course was developed using a blended approach to learning, meaning that it contains a mix of online and instructor-led training (ILT). Students are required to complete the online training portion of the course prior to taking the ILT. The course introduces the roles and responsibilities of a firing boss (FIRB) and outlines duties of other personnel who may engage firing operations. The course discusses and illustrates common firing devices and techniques. Although comprehensive in nature, the course work is not a substitute for the dynamic fire environment. The course provides students with important information regarding general tasks required to be successful. Any opportunity to show students a real ignition or demonstrate the use of an actual firing device will assist in transferring these new concepts and skills to the job.

Course Description: This course is designed to meet the training needs of the Incident Commander Type 4 (ICT4). It is presented in a discussion/exercise format. The six instructional units include: Foundation Skills; Intelligence Gathering and Documentation; Size Up the Incident; Develop a Plan of Action; Post-fire Activities; Evaluating Incident Objectives and Manage the Incident. Evaluation of the student is by unit tests and performance-based evaluations.

Target Group: Designed to assist any emergency responders who will be planning for and making operational decisions during an interface incident. This course is for personnel desiring to be qualified as Incident Commander Type 4 (ICT4), Task Force Leader (TFLD), or any Strike Team Leader.

Course Description: This is an instructor-led course intended to be presented at the local level. Instructional units include firefighter safety in the interface, managing human factors in the interface, pre-incident planning, size up and initial strategy, structure triage, structure protection overview, tactics in the interface, tactical operations and resource use in the interface, action assessment, plan update, and after-action review.

Course Description: This is a classroom course designed to produce student proficiency in the performance of duties associated with the single resource boss position from initial dispatch through demobilization to the home unit. Topics include operational leadership, preparation and mobilization, assignment preparation, risk management, entrapment avoidance, safety and tactics, offline duties, demobilization, and post-incident responsibilities.

Course Description: This training course is designed as a self-assessment opportunity for individuals preparing to step into a leadership role. The course combines one day of classroom instruction followed by a second day in the field with students working through a series of problem-solving events in small teams (Field Leadership Assessment Course). Topics include leadership values and principles, transition challenges for new leaders, situational leadership, team cohesion factors, ethical decision making, and after-action review techniques. Some course delivery may be arduous in nature. This course is equivalent to Leadership III.

Course Description: This is a skill course designed to meet the training needs of a Heavy Equipment Boss (HEQB) on an incident. Primary considerations are tactical use and safety precautions required to establish and maintain an effective dozer operation. A field exercise is required as part of the course (come prepared for any weather). Topics include: Identify and demonstrate the heavy equipment inspection process and related duties of an HEQB, Demonstrate the actions required of an HEQB to safely and effectively complete an assignment, Discuss relevant information and methods for communication and tactics related to heavy equipment, and Identify the administrative duties and procedures required of an HEQB.
Course Pre-requisites: Qualified as a Wildland Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1).

Target Group: Personnel desiring to be qualified as Single Engine Airtanker Manager (SEMG), Helicopter Manager, Single Resource (HMGB), Aircraft Dispatcher (ACDP), and other positions that require basic knowledge of aviation operations.

Course Description: This course covers aircraft types and capabilities, aviation management and safety for flying in and working with agency aircraft, tactical and logistical uses of aircraft, and requirements for helicopter take-off and landing areas. Note: The regulations, procedures, and policies addressed in this course are primarily those governing federal agency and ICS operations. State, county, or other political subdivisions using this course will need to consult their agency having jurisdiction with respect to regulations, procedures and policies.

This class covers essential vertical ventilation techniques for firefighters and emergency responders. Participants will learn the principles, tools, and procedures involved in creating ventilation openings on roofs and other vertical surfaces to improve safety and tactical effectiveness during structure fires. The course emphasizes safety considerations, proper tool selection and handling, team coordination, and effective communication strategies. Hands-on exercises and simulations will provide practical experience in executing vertical ventilation operations in various scenarios. By the end of the class, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform vertical ventilation operations safely and efficiently in the field.

This 12 hour class covers the maintenance, inspection, and familiarization of Fire Apparatus as described in NFPA, DOT, EVT and ASE in a format for Fire Department Engineers. The format includes the basic design and familiarization of fire apparatus truck systems, pump systems, foam systems, and electrical systems in a complete bumper to bumper format designed toward preventive maintenance and troubleshooting activities. This class is half interactive Power Point lecture and half “hands on” acquaintance in, over, around and under with a firetruck.

This comprehensive 12-hour class will involve 4-hours of classroom instruction that will introduce the student to the hazards associated with vehicle entrapment, air bags, seat belt pre-tensioners, vehicle stabilization, and new car construction. The 8-hour lab will involve extensive hands on training in the use of hydraulic tools and vehicle stabilization with tele-cribbing struts in reality based scenarios. There will also be a heavy lift scenario again this year.

Car fires have the potential to become ‘bombs on wheels’. Fuel tanks, drive lines, shock absorbers, and toxic fumes all pose threats to fire personnel. This class will inform students about vehicle construction, fuel types, danger zones, and fire attack.

The fundamentals of SCBA are provided either as a review or to meet the requirements for Fire Fighter I certification in this 4-hour class. Non-toxic smoke is used in the ‘cold’ side of the Cody Burn Building as students negotiate a maze for practical experience in SCBA usage and basic search techniques.

For students with a strong SCBA background, this 4-hour class uses live fire in the `hot` side of the Cody burn building to test and instruct participants in advanced skills in search and rescue techniques and to coordinate fire attack under the supervision of experienced career service fire fighters. Skills taught will include; building size-up, forcible entry primer, primary and secondary searches, searching with a partner, navigating stairs in a below grade fire, recognizing a hose-line as an escape tool, nozzle basics, victim removal and fire behavior. This class is physically and mentally demanding and we expect all participants to complete two evolutions through the burn building. Please have a full SCBA cylinder when you arrive. Please hydrate a few days prior and try to get a good nights sleep. You will leave this class invigorated and excited to be a firefighter and will be much more comfortable with your SCBA and PPE ensemble. Our goal is to give you absolute comfort with your gear.

All good engineers and pump operators have to start somewhere. This 4-hour class provides the basics to achieve that goal. Items to be covered include: fire pump design, hydraulics needed to deliver proper flows and pressures to nozzles and appliances as well as drafting. Hands on training will be included.

This 8-hour class is a continuation of the Basic Pump Operations class. Topics covered will include water supply to pumper including booster tank, tenders, draft and hydrant. Hose lay outs for different operations. Relay pumping and master stream operations. Advanced hydraulics will be part of this class. This is not a class for beginners. Hands on training will be involved.

This 4-hour class will involve 1-hour of classroom that will introduce the student to types of forcible entry tools, basic doorway construction, locking mechanisms and techniques for gaining entry into commercial and residential occupancies. The 3-hour lab will involve three different stations consisting of: techniques for gaining access into inward/outward swinging doors, cutting techniques for gaining access into garage doors and finally a multiple angle circular saw/k12 prop designed to build the students confidence.

After many close calls and a near fatal accident in the past few years with off road all-wheel drive engines, this 4-hour course has been designed to: provide a training program that will demonstrate proficiency, accuracy, and safety in the driving of all wheel drive wildland engines through the combined mediums of classroom experience and actual driving. Students will have a class room lecture followed by an off road driving practical section.

This comprehensive class is designed to equip firefighters with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively and safely utilize ladders in various emergency scenarios. Participants will learn proper ladder selection, placement, climbing techniques, and stabilization methods to access buildings, rescue victims, ventilate structures, and perform other critical tasks during firefighting operations. Emphasis will be placed on ladder safety, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving in challenging environments. Practical exercises and hands-on training will reinforce key concepts and provide participants with the opportunity to apply learned skills under realistic conditions. By the end of the class, participants will be proficient in ladder operations, enhancing their effectiveness and safety in the field.

This 4-hour class will serve as an introduction into fire chemistry and fire dynamics, with an emphasis on a practical understanding of both areas. The oxidation reaction, the basic combustion reaction and the combustion properties of gases, liquids and solids will be examined. Energy, power, heat transfer and heat flux will be defined and explained. The differences between flaming fire and smoldering fire will be discussed. The methods of heat transfer and the stages of fire development will be examined in detail. The issue of ventilation and flashover and its effect on the fire scene will be reviewed.

The object of a cause and origin investigation is to identify the first fuel ignited and the heat source that led to the ignition. The challenge is to identify that first fuel and then determine how the ignition source transferred sufficient heat to kindle a flame. This 4-hour class is designed to assist students in determining competent sources of ignition for given fuels and situations. Among the topics discussed will be: “Hot surface” ignition, spontaneous combustion vs. self-heating combustion, electrical fires, the role of static electricity, cigarettes, wind-blown sparks and fire brands and long term ignition due to pyrolysis. The class will also address normally competent ignition sources that are not viable in certain situations and conditions.

This 4-hour class is designed to provide a basic skillset into the understanding of fires involving flammable gases, vapors and dusts. The course includes: basic combustion; explosion chemistry and dynamics; mechanisms involved in diffuse phase explosions, and the methodology for conducting origin and cause investigations of such explosions. Special emphasis is placed on natural and liquefied propane (LP) gas explosions, including gas systems and appliances.

This 8-hour class will introduce students to basic rope rescue, why and when we use it, and the risks involved. The class will cover the use of standard rescue equipment, knots, litters, and anchor systems. Practical scenarios will include building a rigging system to raise and lower loads in low angle terrain.

Course Description: This course is designed to train potential Expanded Dispatch Recorder (EDRCs). It begins by providing an overview of the dispatch organization and the qualities of a successful dispatcher. The remainder of the course provides hands-on electronic resource tracking system experience by introducing dispatch concepts.
Course Pre-requisites: None. EDRC Task book is advantageous but not required.

Description
Hands-on-training with multiple reps. Students will build necessary skills to stretch and advance hose lines. We will start with basic Engine Company knowledge and build upon our skills. Students will be taught how to best stretch and manage hose between the apparatus and the front door. We will teach fundamental skills of hose line operation and how to advance charged hose around corners and obstacles. Students will become better with their nozzle skills and learn practical ways to control a hose line.

Description
This course is designed to give the student a working knowledge of modern fire behavior and fuels and the studies associated with it. We will also conduct hands-on live fire training to give students a firsthand look at how this knowledge can help with day to day operations on the fire ground.
